She lives in the poetry she cannot write
________________ The forgotten child, the lost child: Lost children spend an excessive amount of time hiding in plain sight. They expend all their energies trying not to get noticed by anyone, including teachers, other children, and their caregivers. It is quote ironic she was given the name Charity, whereas her twin sister was given the name Destiny. As long as Charity can remember, she has always been in her more popular and likeable twin sister. Whereas Destiny was outgoing and loved by all her pers, Charity was never really noticed. She even got the name “The other Reeves sister”. You do kind of get used to being forgotten. One time, she even had to remined her father, that he indeed had two daughters, and not just one. No matter what she did, she was just never good enough. Her parents put everything into her sister and her dance. She was the golden child, could do no wrong, whereas Charity could do no good. It was exhausting, trying to constantly make her own parents notice her, be proud of her. All she wanted, was a pat on the back and a “good job”. When she was 16, she got pregnant. Her boyfriend was older, toxic. He could say jump, and she would ask “how high”. She was so desperate for validation, that she sought it out in all the wrong places. He didn’t love her, but she was addicted to him. If her parents weren’t disappointed in her before, they sure as hell was now. Her mother forced her – kicking and screaming – to get an abortion. Her boyfriend of course left her, and she lost the few friends she had. She got obsessive, couldn’t let him go, even though he was with another woman. When she turned 18, she got into college. Not a fancy big college, no no that honor was only for her sister. No Charity got into a cheap community college, but honestly, she didn’t care! For once in her life, she could be more than just “the other Reeves sister”. Still shy and innocent, she didn’t turn popular all the sudden, but she did for the first time ever, got friends. Her own friends, who knew her as Charity Reeves, and not just Tini’s sister. Working at the local bar, 21 years old. She has her own little bubble of good friend, her own small apartment. No longer in contact with her parents, low contact with her sister. Her life really isn’t that exciting. Whereas her sister is married to some rich dude, with a kid, Charity is just like every other 21-year-old girl. She loves her little kitten, even playing with the thought of getting another one. Loves her many books, loves her book boyfriend, and her job and her few friends. |
